London By Night

Late Night Call
One of my very dearest friends from California came to visit last week.  One night we left all five kids with a sitter and headed to London for a Night Photography Tour.  We were in a rush so instead of a lovely dinner together we grabbed a croissant (her) and a Snickers (me) and made a beeline for the meeting place.  It was freezing cold and the two hour tour was still going strong when we left 2.5 hours into it.  But we had a great time together.  And we got some really fun shots of London by night as well.

The London Eye and City Hall

View from the Westminster Bridge.  I love the light trails made by passing buses.
This is something I would definitely like to do again.  Preferably on a balmy summer night.  Preferably after a lazy adult only dinner with wine.  And certainly with my wonderful friend.

  1. I am a sucker for flare and I just LOVE that first shot where the light from the lamp post looks like a sunburst. So, so, SO great! And a night photography tour??? Love that idea! I think I know a friend that I would love to do that with - maybe they have them in our hometown of Oxford? Thanks for the inspiration...

  3. Incredible pictures! I would love to go on this tour with my aunt who is a real shutterbug. I wonder how late the tour would start with the lengthening days...might be a very late night!

  4. Funny, I have very similar pictures on my camera. I guess that makes you one of my dearest friends in the world. Your shots turned out wonderfully. I'll have the wine ready, or at least reservations for a restaurant that serves wine next time you are 'round these parts. Maybe we could head to the Santa Monica Pier... bet it's lovely at night... and warmer too. XOXO

  5. What a fun outing! And such great results. I love the one with the cars streaking. Did you have to use a tripod for that? (Just popping by from the Busy Nothings Photo Club to say hi.)

  9. These photos are amazing! I especially love the last one. I want to learn to do that! Did you use a tripod and a long shutter speed?

Just wanted to say thank you so much for joining my photo club. Sorry it's taken me so long to getting around to seeing them all properly. It's been a busy month!

  21. These look amazing. Impressive. I can do natural light shots, but need to do more research on night photography. I love that your family is having this adventure. We moved from California to Montana a few years ago. Not quite the same, but close... xo
